WIGGINS - Unusual sounds coming from behind Fred's Department Store early Wednesday morning prompted a concerned citizen to contact the Wiggins Police Department.
When officer Reggie Nix responded, he found Joseph Langley within a couple blocks of the store covered in insulation.
"The duct work had been opened on the air-conditioning unit and it appeared he'd tried to get in through the roof," WPD detective Roger Freeman said. "I never could tell what his motivation was but I'm pretty sure he wanted to break in the building."
Langley was charged with attempted burglary and was given a $25,000 bond.
Because he had a felony bond revoked from Forrest County, he is still lodged in the Stone County Regional Correctional Facility and won't be back on the streets anytime soon.
"This is a perfect example of a citizen picking up the phone and making a difference," WPD Chief Matt Barnett said. "I've always said we need the input of the citizens in order to fully do our jobs.
"We appreciate this citizen getting involved and assisting us in stopping this break in."
