Mr. Charles E. “Chuck” Sorensen, 81, passed peacefully into God’s Kingdom on Fri., Jan. 4, 2013.
Born March 1, 1931 in Galesburg, Ill., he grew up and was educated in Iowa City, Iowa, and attended University of Iowa where he studied Theology and Philosophy.
A charismatic salesman and Vice President of Brenner Cine Sound in Washington, D. C., he did very well in developing and promoting the sales, rental and repair of motion picture equipment for more than 25 years. Prominent customers included numerous motion picture production companies, government agencies including Army and Navy departments, and the White House, among others.
Chuck’s Danish and German parents brought him up in the Lutheran church and when he and Joy were to be married in Washington, he searched out Zion Lutheran Church in Takoma Park, Maryland for a small wedding with Pastor Edward R. Bley officiating. Pastor Bley became rather an icon in the family, later officiating in the wedding of their daughter, Cheryl and her husband Steve, in the church, as well as the memorial service for their son, James Andres Sorensen, age 24. After retirement, Pastor Bley was again called upon to officiate on stage at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre for the wedding of son Kim to his wife Suzy.
Moving back to Mississippi in 1999, where Joy had grown up and where they had met in 1954, he decided the First United Methodist Church of Wiggins was the perfect home for worship and other Christian activities.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Joy O’Neal Sorensen; brother, Harold (Debbie) Sorensen; son Kim Sorensen (Suzanne) Haug; daughter, Cheryl Sorensen (Steven) Bupp; and grandsons Kevin James (Cassie) Bupp, Michael Eugene (Callie) Bupp, Christopher Merle (Theresa) Bupp and David Charles Bupp; as well as dozens of beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Moore Funeral Home on Mon., Jan. 7. Interment followed at Paramount Baptist Church on Paramount Church Road, Perkinston.
Pallbearers were four grandsons, Kevin, Christopher, Michael and David Bupp; son Kim Sorensen Haug and son-in-law Steven Bupp.
Moore Funeral Home in Wiggins was in charge of arrangements.
