Mrs. Laura Yohe Simpson, 91 of Wiggins, died Thurs, Jan. 3, 2013.
Mrs. Simpson was born on May 24, 1921 in Norwich, CT to William and Mary Yohe.
A graduate of Norwich Free Academy and W. W. Backus Hospital Nursing School, she was an orthopedic nurse during World War II in England and France from 1953 to 1945. She married Dr. Joel A. “Jack” Simpson Jr. in Rhiems, France. They settled in Wiggins after the war. Mrs. Simpson was a very active community leader for 60 years and was librarian for the Stone County Public Library for 20 years.
Her parents, William and Mary Yohe; husband, Dr. Joel A. Simpson Jr; brothers, William “Buddy” Yohe and Ernest Yohe; and son, Gary Preston Simpson Sr., all preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Doris Yohe Leffingwell; sons, Joel A. (Eva Ruth) Simpson III, William “Bill” Yohe Simpson and Richard Boyd Simpson; grandchildren, Andrea Simpson (Adam) Sireci, Nicklaus (Meredith) Simpson, Jennifer Simpson (Wes) Brantley, Benjamin Joel Simpson and Preston Simpson; great grandchildren, Katelyn Brantley, Gavin Brantley and Sam Sireci; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sat., Jan. 12, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Wiggins Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Stone County Library, Laura Simpson Children’s Fund, 242 Second St., Wiggins, MS 39577.
