Mary Isabelle Leath Holmes, 78, died peacefully at home on Friday, January 25, 2013.
She was born in Fayette County, Tennessee, and graduated from Fayette County High School, attended Lambuth College and graduated from Memphis State. She moved to Wiggins with her husband in 1963 and 50 years later, called it home. She was a former elementary school teacher, housewife and mother and grandmother.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wiggins, where she was active working with children and youth, in mission work, women’s ministries and choir. She always had a smile on her face and “never met a stranger.” She loved her family, her dogs, cooking and people.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Ola Leath, and by her brother, Malcolm Leath, and her sister, Margaret Campbell.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 58 years, Jimmy Holmes, two daughters, Teresa (Kevin) Taylor of Gulfport and Susan (Randy) Reiners of Allen, Texas, and a son, David (Erinn) also of Allen, Texas. She had six grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law: Jeremy and Charlotte Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Roy and Rachel Reiners and Stephen and Katherine Holmes. She is also survived by a brother, Glen Leath of Bartlett, Tennessee, eight nieces, three nephews and hundreds of friends.
Services were held Monday, January 28, at the church’s Family Life Center and officiated by Rev. Jeff Pruett and Rev. Larry White.
Pallbearers for the service were: David Holmes, Kevin Taylor, Randy Reiners, Jeremy Taylor, Madison Price and Glen Leath. Honorary Pallbearer were: A.D. Hart, John Guthrie, Sr., Charles Sars, Paul Brammer, Paul Rigby, Barry Mellenger and Ron Dyal.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to the First United Methodist Church in Wiggins.
