John Purvis

John T. Purvis Jr., 80 of Wiggins and formerly of Laurel, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Forrest General Hospital.

Mr. Purvis was a member and deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in Wiggins. He was the owner of Wiggins Saw Company in Wiggins and he served in the U.S. Army.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Purvis, Sr.; sisters, Winnie Lou Stringer, Mildred Purvis and Ina Mae Kennerly; brothers James Purvis and Robert Purvis; and son-in-law, Monty “Tater” Howard, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Purvis; children, Mike and Rita Purvis of Hattiesburg, Jenny and Brian Temple of Laurel, Randy and Cathy Purvis, Ronnie and Sarah Purvis and Tim and Debbie Purvis all of Wiggins; nine grandchildren, Candi (Tim) Eubanks, John T. (Vicki) Purvis III, Danielle Martin, Jason (Aprel) Purvis, Jeremy Purvis, Jared Purvis, Steven Purvis, Krystal Purvis and Heather Purvis; five great grandchildren, Colby Martin, Tate Purvis, Jackson Purvis, Whitney Purvis and Kolt Purvis; sisters Joyce Thornton of Vicksburg, Ruby Nell Rogers of Mt. Pleasant, TX and Maureen Harrison of Houston, TX; honorary son and grandson, Bob and Charlie Wagner of Wiggins; and numerous nephews, nieces and his church family.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 23, from Bethel Baptist Church in Wiggins.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 1001, Wiggins, MS 39577.

Moore Funeral Home in Wiggins was in charge of arrangements.
