WOOLMARKET - Jakalyn Green continued putting up big numbers as the Stone Middle School 7th-grade football team earned its first shutout of the season last Thursday.
Green, who has scored nearly every time he’s touched the ball this season, scored touchdowns on runs of 80, 28 and 50 yards and added a 2-point conversion.
He finished the game with 161 yards on just four carries as Stone defeated St. Patrick 24-0.
Quickly running out of adjectives to describe Green, coach Ben Bryan said, “He’s pretty amazing.”
Green had two other touchdowns called back, one rushing and another when he took an interception to the end zone.
Fred Armstrong carried the ball four times and gained 37 yards.
“He continues to impress with his toughness and his work ethic,” Bryan said.
Ray Box led the Tomcats’ defense with three tackles while Tavin Peters forced a fumble and Tyrese Johnson recovered a fumble.
The 8th-grade team avenged its only loss of the season with a 38-26 victory over the Irish.
Terrion Avery scored on runs of 8, 14 and 39 yards and finished the game with 278 yards on 22 carries.
“St. Pat didn’t have an answer for him so we just kept feeding him the ball,” Bryan said.
Avery also scored three 2-point conversions.
Quarterback Ashton Hickman scored on an 18-yard run and on a 15-yard run as well as added a 2-point conversion.
He had six carries for 34 yards and completed 3-of-5 passes for another 44 yards.
Justin Husley paced the defense with five tackles while Avery had four tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.
“He played nearly the entire game,” Bryan said. “He just doesn’t seem to tire out.”
Erion Harris contributed three tackles, forced one fumble and recovered another and also blocked a pass.
“He was all over the field,” Bryan said.
The middle school teams travel to West Harrison High School tomorrow to take on West Wortham.
The 7th-graders play at 5 p.m. and the 8th-graders follow.
