A Jackson County woman is in custody and police are seeking her male accomplice in a series of electronics thefts from Walmart.
Sandra Catchings, a 34-year-old white female, is in custody in Harrison County facing several felony and misdemeanor charges.
Should she make bail in that jurisdiction, Wiggins Police Department officials will be there to arrest and charge her with two counts of felony shoplifting.
On Dec. 1, Investigator Roger Freeman of the WPD was called to Walmart and loss prevention personnel told him about a female who had loaded two televisions in a cart, walked out and loaded them in a dark-colored PT Cruiser.
"They had video of her going to the car, a male accomplice getting out and helping her load the TVs and then the pair taking off," Freeman said. "What was not available was a license plate number."
On Jan. 5, the couple made a second appearance at the store and the male accomplice allegedly staged a computer in a shopping cart in the clothing department.
"He went out, got in the driver's side of the car and she went in and headed out with the computer," Freeman said. "He took off so fast he almost left her in the parking lot."
An alert citizen saw Catchings leaving through the entrance and wrote down the plate number of the PT Cruiser and it came back registered to Catchings.
"They noticed this woman was moving way too fast," Freeman said. She was subsequently picked up by the D'Iberville Police Department and, when interviewed, she admitted to what she had been doing and implicated her co-conspirator."
Police are now seeking Joseph Derouen, a white male said to be 6-feet tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds.
Derouen may be driving a black Chrysler PT Cruiser with the license plate number JGN-077.
Anyone with any information about his whereabouts is asked to call Investigator Roger Freeman at the WPD at 601-928-5444 or Crime Stoppers at 888-313-8477.
Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for tips leading to an arrest or the apprehension of a fugitive.
