Both the 7th- and 8th-grade Stone Middle School football teams earned a pair of victories over the past week.
Ian Flurry and Trey Arrington each scored a touchdown and Arrington added a 2-point conversion in a 14-0 shutout of West Wortham Monday.
While statistics were not available as of press time, Coach Ben Bryan said D'Jarrion Cameron, Dylan Cobb and Flurry had stood out on the defensive side as the Tomcats improved to 5-1.
Flurry and Arrington also scored last Thursday in a 22-6 defeat of St. Stanislaus.
Kelton Marshall carried the ball just one time in that game, but made it count as he went 50 yards for a TD.
Flurry had nine tackles in that game and forced a fumble while Cobb contributed eight tackles and Cameron seven.
Bryan was impressed with the defensive effort of Jalen Payton and Jacob Johnson.
"They both had to step up and play a role and they both responded very well," he said.
Spencer Edwards scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the 8th-graders in a 26-2 victory over West Wortham Monday.
Hunter White added a TD and Josh Grover got in the stat book in a big way, blocking a punt, recovering the ball and scoring a touchdown.
Larry Jones, Nathan Fairley and White earned defensive kudos from the coach.
Jakalyn Green scored two TDs on two carries and had 76 all-purpose yards as the 8th-graders shut out St. Stanislaus 36-0 last week.
Edwards, Jamir Jamison, Fairley, White and Parker Owen all got in on the scoring, contributing touchdowns or 2-point conversions in the win.
Darrien Carter, White and Tavin Peters stood out on defense with Peters blocking a punt and intercepting a pass.
Bryan said a lot of players who hadn't seen a lot of playing time got in the game and he was pleased with what he saw.
"I was impressed with their performance and their may be some Tomcats who are going to see more playing time as a result of that game," he said.
The middle schoolers return to action next Tuesday when they host St. Patrick.
