The Stone Middle School 7th-grade football team closed out its season with a 6-0 victory over Pass Christian Thursday.
After a scoreless first half, Dylan Cobb broke loose for a 53-yard touchdown run to account for all the scoring.
Cobb finished the game with 91 yards on six carries.
Coach Ben Bryan was pleased with the team's final record of 7-1.
"I had a lot of question marks coming into the season," he said. "It was really nice watching them progress and grow."
Ian Flurry gained 31 yards on offense and added an interception on defense Jammy Boulton added an interception of his own to go with four tackles while Ashton Delano and Nick Alexander each had four tackles.
The 7th-graders got their sixth victory the week before when St. Patrick combined its 7th- and 8th-grade teams, hereby forfeiting the 7th-grade game against Stone.
That game goes in the books as a 2-0 victory.
Pass Christian shut out the 8th-graders 21-0.
"The game was a lot closer than the score would indicate," Bryan said. "Their defense was fast and very quick to the ball.
"It was probably the most athletic team we played this year and I wasn't real disappointed in how we played."
Jamir Jamison completed 4-of-9 passes for 28 yards.
The previous week, the 8th-graders took a 34-14 victory over St. Patrick.
Jakalyn Green paced the offense, gaining 55 yards on five carries, scoring a 34-yard touchdown and adding a 2-point conversion.
Fred Armstrong, Spencer Edwards and Tavin Peters all scored touchdowns while Miles Allison, Hunter White and Nathan Fairley all scored 2-point conversions.
Josh Grover led the defense with four tackles and two sacks while forcing and recovering a fumble.
Peters added three tackles and blocked a punt for a safety and Hagan Ladnier and Edwards each had an interception.
Bryan is proud of the season his team had and said the high school would benefit next season.
"Coach Stone has some talent coming up for its freshman year," he said.
