Two local benefits are scheduled for long-time Stone County Enterprise Editor Jody O’Hara, who was diagnosed with lung cancer on April 27.
Snow Boogers and Big Level Grocery will host a barbecue benefit for O’Hara this Saturday, June 6, from noon-3 p.m., featuring Brent’s BBQ. The menu will include pulled pork barbecue sandwiches with Cajun boiled potatoes and beans for $10 per plate. You can pick up your orders at Big Level Grocery, located at 1023 King Bee Rd., Perkinston. Organizers said 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated.
“Jody O’Hara has served our community as editor of our hometown newspaper, The Stone County Enterprise,” according to a social media post by the owner of Snow Boogers. “He has been there for us, covering all aspects of our community. He would greatly appreciate your help during this difficult time as he undergoes cancer treatments. Thank you for your prayers and support!”
Another benefit for O’Hara — a drawing for a Taurus 1911 .45 caliber pistol — is scheduled for 2 p.m. on July 6 at Wiggins Pawn & Gun, located at First Street in Wiggins. The event is sponsored by Wiggins Gun & Pawn, Big Level Grocery, the Stone County Sheriff’s Office and The Stone County Enterprise.
