City of Wiggins Scarecrow contest underway

Fall weather has come to Wiggins, which means scarecrow displays featuring amber foliage, pumpkins, and straw are beginning to appear for the annual contest.

The City of Wiggins is now accepting entries for the 2020 Scarecrow Convention.

Anyone can enter their scarecrows in the contest, which begins Oct. 5 and ends Oct. 15.

Local businesses, churches, schools and other organizations can design, display and enter their scarecrows as well as families and individuals.

Citizens will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites through the City’s website. The winners of the popular vote will be awarded for first, second and third place in the People’s Choice division. Votes will be tallied on Oct. 15.

First, second and third place will also be given for the judged category chosen by a three-judge panel.

A Super Hero award will also be chosen.

First-place entries will be awarded $25, a commemorative plaque, and will be featured in the Stone County Enterprise.

Earnest participants must register their scarecrow displays by calling 601-928-5418.

The contest is sponsored by Wiggins, the Stone County Chamber of Commerce, the Pine Hill Ladies, the Stone County Enterprise and many individual donors.
