The Wiggins Police Department is investigating an incident involving gunfire in the community near Stone Middle School left that one injured and one arrested.

Late night on Sunday, May 14, several residents reported hearing gunshots fired near their homes and called the police.

One Wiggins resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said they were sitting outside their home when gunshots rang out across town.

“I heard really loud band back to back,” they said.

Immediately, they dialed 9-1-1 to report the incident.

Police Chief Jeff Thomas said around 9:49 p.m. police officers with the WPD were dispatched to 632 Fourth St. for reported shots fired.

“Upon the officers arrival, occupants and suspect identified as Ahmad Rashad Arrington had been involved in a dispute,” Thomas said.

He said that Arrington had left the resident, and then returned sometime later with a gun and started shooting at the residents.

Arrington was taken into custody by the WPD shortly after their arrival.

Thomas said one person did sustain a minor injury, but did not confirm if it was from the gunfire.

Ahmad Rashad Arrington attended a bond hearing on Monday, May 15 where Municipal Judge Sean Courtney set his bond at $35,000. Arrington was charged with shooting into a dwelling house.

Chief Jeff Thomas said this case is still being investigated.As of Monday, no injuries had been reported.
