Today, Tuesday, October 19, 2021 the US Forest Service, De Soto Ranger District, is planning a prescribed burn in the Leaf River Wildlife Management Area in Perry County.
This planned prescribed burn will be 125 acres within burn block 6315, at the end of Forest Service Road 353B. The burn is 6 miles east of MS Hwy 29 and 4 miles west of MS Hwy 57. Smoke may be noticeable around the Highway 29 and Progress Road intersection.
The purpose of this burn is for longleaf pine restoration, site preparation for planting, and hazardous fuel reduction.
Crews, equipment, and engines will be working in this location today. Please use caution in the area, especially along Forest Service Road 315.
