Farmers to Families

Gracepointe Church of God created quite a stir Monday, September 21 and had traffic backed up to the Kloze Klozet at one point. Gracepointe, which is located at 845 N. Magnolia Dr, has been giving away free produce and fruit every other week for four months.

However, last Monday was the first day of the free giveaway that included milk and meat products. The word spread fast and traffic lined up as a result. At 8am the church had four lanes of traffic lined up in its main parking lot with several overflow cars parked on the side of the road.

The truck gets to the church at 8am and they unloaded 850 boxes and by 10:15am all boxes were given out.

Based on the number of complaints received at the police department and a call from the church, a police officer was dispatched to help with traffic control. Pastor Sean Rodgers said, "We are so sorry if we caused any inconvenience to anyone. We did not anticipate this kind of response and we will be looking into alternate places to hand out the boxes in the future." It has been determined that the Stone County Fairgrounds would be the best place in Wiggins to handle that much traffic.

The next giveaway will be Monday, October 5 at the Fairgrounds. This program will continue every other week. Plan on stopping by to get your free box.
