A long-desired improvement to Hall Street is set to get underway Monday.
The City of Wiggins let a contract which will see the street, a busy corridor which connects Hwy. 26 with Hwy. 49 and East Frontage Drive, repaved and restriped following repairs to the actual road base.
Land Shaper, Inc. of Gulfport will be overlaying the road from East Frontage Drive to just before the entrance to Village Square, the shopping center which includes Piggly Wiggly and Pizza Inn.
City of Wiggins Engineer Ryan Tice said the repairs were a long time coming and business owners along the street were reacting favorably to the improvements.
“Everybody seemed to be very positive about it,” he said.
During the project, which is expected to take approximately 90 days, there will be one-lane closures and businesses fronting the street may be restricted to a single entrance/exit.
“At no time will any lane of traffic or driveway be closed overnight,” Tice said.
Tice Engineering Inc. has also been tasked with designing a turning lane at Hall Street and Hwy. 26 to alleviate congestion when motorists are attempting to turn left off Hall Street.
City of Wiggins Mayor Joel Miles said the improvements were a long time coming.
“Residents of the City of Wiggins have complained about the condition of Hall Street since before I was elected to the Board of Aldermen 10 years ago,” he said.
