Several members of the Stone County 4-H Horse Club participated in the recent Southern Regional 4-H Horse Show in Perry, Ga.
They made up just a small part of the 900 participants from 13 states.
Mickayla Holcomb placed third overall in the pole bending and stake race events.
She was joined by Riley Lewis, Elisabeth Reaux and Maddison Woodard and the contingent competed in barrel racing, pole bending, stake race, halter and cattle-boxing events.
“It was a great opportunity and a great experience for our youths,” said Stone County 4-H Agent Brad Jones.
Other 4-H members competed in the S.A.F.E.T.Y. State Invitational shooting event in Starkville.
Jonathan Baker finished ninth in shotgun while Hagen Ladnier placed 12th.
William Smith finished in the top 25 in shotgun and Caycen Ratliff finished in the top 35 in .22 rifle.
“When you consider the number of youths who competed from around the state, finishing in the top 35 is really an accomplishment,” Jones said. “These youths, both in the horse club and in the shooting sports, went out and represented Stone County very well.”
