The combined Merchants’ Trick-or-Treat and Night Out Against Crime proved to be a tremendous success last Thursday.
Wiggins Police Department officer Tim Hill said he had heard from numerous people that the crowd was the largest they’d seen for an event in Blaylock Park outside of a Pine Hill Festival.
“I really want to thank everyone who made it possible,” he said. “We had great support from churches, businesses and residents.”
Crowds of children – and parents – strolled around the park’s walking track gathering both candy and information from booths along the way while a long lined formed for hot dogs and hamburgers.
Neighborhood Watch organizations recruited new members and offered advice on setting up new watches while a karaoke DJ entertained from the stage.
Hill said plans were already underway to repeat the event next year.
“Absolutely,” he said.
