The leaseholder of a house on Auburn Street where a man was severely beaten last week has been arrested and charged with drug crimes.

Tad Young, 44, was not at home when officers arrived to investigate the vicious beating of 41-year-old Randy Howze.

Investigators said, though, that narcotics were visible through the door of the residence.

That led to a search warrant and the execution of that warrant turned up crack cocaine and other narcotics in Young’s bedroom.

“We received a tip that he was staying at the Southern Inn and patrol officers apprehended him in the parking lot of that establishment,” Investigator Steve Taylor said. “Another search warrant was sought for his room there and that search turned up marijuana, hydrocodone, oxycodone and synthetic cannabinoid.”

Young was charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

He is free after posting a $60,000 bond.
