The ninth annual Pretty in Pink event was deemed a success by organizers.

While not as many people turned out as in the past, that was blamed on the unseasonable heat Saturday.

A preliminary accounting showed more than $2,000 was raised for the Pink Hearts Fund and all receipts were not yet in.

“I would really like to thank all the merchants and sponsors who make this possible,” said Jackie Johnson, a breast-cancer survivor who spearheads the effort each year.

The heat did prove to be good for one vendor.

Taiveona Johnson, an 11-year-old who became involved by selling lemonade at the event four years ago, had her biggest sales total to date, bringing in $76 and proudly turning over her profits for the cause.

“You could just see the joy in her face,” Johnson said.
