Sawmill restaurant back open

Sawmill Under New Management, Finally Reopens

Sawmill reopened under the management of Tricia Shehorn, who plans to continue the legacy of previous owner Mrs. Elaine Beckham. After Mrs. Beckham got Covid-19, the Sawmill closed in November after Thanksgiving. It was closed for about 8 months, until Shehorn took it over.

The Sawmill Family Restaurant officially opened back up on July 6, 2021.

Their hours of operation are Monday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., closed Tuesday, Wednesday – Friday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., closed Saturday, and open Sunday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

They are located at 2205 Highway 49 South in Wiggins.

Mrs. Beckham is still apart of the legacy that Shehorn is continuing.

"We’ve added a few things to the menu, but other than that, it’s the same old Southern country cooking," says Shehorn. She also said, We’ve added poboys for the afternoon menu. We’ve also added seafood buffets for Friday nights, that we didn’t offer before.

Shehorn had a dream to own a ‘country-style buffet’ and saw her opportunity when Mrs. Beckham retired.

"It gave me the opportunity to continue the legacy. This is my lifelong dream," says Shehorn.

Mrs. Beckham has owned the Sawmill for 21 years, but ‘it was time to go home.’

"It was my dream. It was my passion. And it was something I really hated to give up. But it’s her dream now," says Beckham.

"Keep the legacy going. That’s my big thing. I’ve kept it the Sawmill. It’s a legacy. It’s a landmark. She has been my inspiration and held my hand through the whole time," says Shehorn.

When asked what she would say about bringing the Sawmill back, Shehorn says ‘Welcome home.’
