Officers of the Wiggins Police Department on Saturday arrested a woman in the Friday shooting death of 20-year-old Jalen Curtis.
Kayla Dennis, 26, was arrested Saturday and charged with manslaughter.
"On Friday night, July 17, the Wiggins Police Department received a call for shots fired on Hope Avenue," according to a press release from the department. "Upon arrival, (Curtis) was found lying on the ground unresponsive. … Curtis was transported by AMR to Memorial Hospital of Stone County, where he succumbed to his injuries."
Dennis fled the scene Friday before officers arrived, but she was immediately identified as a "person of interest" in the case.
"It wasn't a domestic relationship, they were just friends," Wiggins Deputy Chief of Police Jeff Thomas said Monday.
As of Monday afternoon, Dennis remained at the Stone County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
"She had another charge from a previous incident and bond was revoked in that case," Thomas said.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Wiggins Police Department at 601-928-5444 or MS Gulf Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
