More than 70 veterans were feted Monday morning at the annual Stone County Veterans’ Breakfast.
Sponsored by Bank of Wiggins and hosted by First United Methodist Church, the event is staffed by the Stone Middle School 8th-grade Student Council and the food is prepared by Sawmill Restaurant.
Members of the Student Council served food, presented poems and essays and a beautiful history and rendering of Taps.
Jamie Davis Howe sang the national anthem and My Country ‘Tis of Thee.
Stone Middle School principal Lance Bolen welcomed the veterans and thanked them for their service to the country.
“It’s an honor and a privilege for myself, my staff and our students to be able to welcome you here today,” he said.
Monday marked the 26th time the breakfast has been held and a petition was circulated and signed thanking all who endeavor to make sure Stone County veterans are recognized each year.
