For the eighth consecutive year, the Stone High Pride marching band has qualified for state competition.

Having received all superior ratings at last weekend’s Region 5 qualifier at Milner Stadium in Gulfport, the Pride qualified for the Class 4-A championships to be held Nov. 2 in Germantown.

Stone High band director Ida Mitchell said the band’s 2019 show, EmBELLish has developed well.

“I think it’s come along real well,” she said. “The kids are buying in and we’re getting good comments from the judges.”

The Pride finished second in Class 4-A Saturday while the color guard earned first place.

“We scored well and beat some higher class schools,” Mitchell said.

The previous week, the band earned Best in Class for drum majors, color guard, music and general effect at Groovin’ in the Grove at Oak Grove High School.

They were also named best overall band.

Mitchell and her assistants will continue to fine tune the show in anticipation of the state competition.

“We’ve got to add all the bells and whistles,” she said.
