The Stone High School Varsity Football team will face Hancock High School for the season opener at 7 p.m. this Friday in Kiln.
SHS Head Coach John Feaster is feeling optimistic about the first game of the season.
“I’m just thankful and grateful we have an opportunity to play and do what we love,” Feaster said.
Feaster said the prior months have been full of uncertainty for players and coaches and there were times when he doubted the 2020 football season would be a reality.
When the school district delayed the first day of school until Aug. 17, the Tomcats lost time to prepare.
“It’s been a challenge,” Feaster said.
Despite the setback, he is looking forward to seeing his players do their best on the field.
Feaster said the Tomcats have some very talented players on the roster this fall.
The Tomcats will tough to overcome defensively, he added.
“I feel pretty good,” Feaster said. I feel like the kids have worked hard (in preparation).”
Last year, the Tomcats won 29-17 against the Hawks at home.
This will be the second game of the season for the Hancock Hawks. Last week, the Hawks lost 14-35 to the Gautier Gators.
“Honestly, we're just grateful to be playing,” Feaster said.
