PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast turned in a methodical performance Saturday, pulling away from Delgado with a dominant defensive performance for a 57-41 victory.

“We played well in spurts. We were a little more poised. There were moments we could have been more aggressive, but we took care of business and held them to 41 points.”

The Bulldogs finished off a perfect November with their sixth win to start the season. Daphane White (So., St. Martin/Gulfport) had 16 points, and Ataliya Brown (Fr., Choctawhatchee/Crestview, Fla) had 15. Kelsi Jackson (Fr., South Jones/Moselle) added 10.

Gulf Coast outscored the Dolphins (3-4) in each quarter except the fourth, leading by nine at the end of the first quarter and by 14 at the half. Delgado managed only 10 points in the first 20 minutes of play.

It was 43-25 after three quarters, and the Bulldogs would lead by as many as 24 in the fourth before a late flurry of Delgado 3-pointers carved into the deficit.

“Overall, I’m proud of the girls,” Adams said. “We’ve been on a long stretch of six games with only seven players. We’re gradually adding people back. I’m really excited about what this team can accomplish this year.”
