Both of the Stone Middle School football teams fell in close contests with Vancleave last Thursday.
The 7th-graders got touchdowns on passes from K.J. Galloway to Jakylon Green and Jay’Dyn Brown but fell, 20-12.
“We lost by one score and we had chances to win,” said coach Jason Jones. “We were never really out of the game.”
Jones is seeing his charges improve and is looking for a little more leadership.
“K.J. had some highlights,” he said. “He’s very athletic and he just has to learn that, if he’s going to be the quarterback, he’s got to be the man and show confidence when things are going bad as well as when they’re going good.
“They’re 7th-graders, it’s a learning process.”
The 7th-graders are now 2-2 on the season.
Brandon Montgomery scored a rushing touchdown for the 8th-graders in a 14-8 loss to the Bulldogs.
“We had chances and we didn’t capitalize on a couple of possessions,” Jones said. “Those seven-minute quarters go by faster than you realize and we just ran out of time.”
The coach said he’s eager to see the current middle schoolers as they progress in the Stone County School District program.
“They play really well together,” he said.
The 8th-graders are now 3-2.
Stone Middle School travels to Poplarville this Thursday and closes the season when Pass visits next week.
