The Stone County Board of Supervisors began appointing county positions at the first meeting of the new year.
District 3 Supervisor Lance Pearson was re-appointed to serve another year as Board President.
Pearson was unanimously re-appointed by his fellow supervisors.
Pearson said he is honored to be re-appointed to his leadership role to serve his home community.
“It’s been a pleasure,” Pearson said. “I love our county.”
Pearson was first elected to office in 2007.
“Whenever you are born and raised somewhere…it’s always a privilege to serve with homegrown men and women.”
The Board appointed Clark Bond as vice president.
The Board went into executive session to discuss certain personnel issues for appointments.
Supervisors discussed hiring a replacement for comptroller and administrator Brian Ross, who has been home battling cancer for several months.
The Board appointed Chancery Clerk Tom Smith to handle Ross’ roles currently, but agreed the County may need another employee to help the Clerk’s office and the County keep up with regular business.

Approved personnel reports for the Stone County Sheriff’s Department.
Awarded two separate bids for asphalt hot mix and thin lift paving to Warren Paving and tabled awarding the bid for CRS-2 emulsion.
Awarded the County’s depository letting bid to The First bank in Wiggins, which offered a two-year fixed rate of 0.52 percent for accounts.
After hearing a debris clean-up report from Nell Murray, the Board conditionally approved for contractors to submit invoices, pending approval credit for the County. President Donald Trump approved the County’s request for federal aid.
Approved the Inda Road East bridge replacement construction estimate.
Acknowledged Justin T. Miles completed 24.13 hours of additional online training for Mississippi Justice Court judges. Approved the monthly payroll and claims docket.
Approved nine inventory item deletions.
Approved payment of $1,807.35 to Chancery Clerk for copying 2020 assessment rolls.
The Board of Supervisor’s next regular meeting will take place at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021 at the Stone County Courthouse.
