Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation process vehicles belonging to a suspect [L] and the victim [R] in Wednesday’s fatal shooting in Wiggins. 

The Wiggins Police Department has announced a pair of arrests in Wednesday’s shooting death of 24-year-old Wiggins resident Martin Atkinson, Jr.

At approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday, Atkinson was shot in the midsection and, after police and medical personnel responded, was transported to Forrest General Hospital by helicopter. A be-on-the-lookout was issued for the suspects’ vehicle and Stone County Sheriff’s Department deputies located the vehicle on Hwy. 26 until and detained the suspects until WPD officers arrived.

Alexander Arnez Frederick, a 24-year-old Poplarville resident was arrested and charged with murder while Gamod Tyrese Youngblood, a 20-year-old resident of Lumberton, was charged with accessory after the fact to murder. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation had agents in Wiggins Thursday processing both the victim’s vehicle and another vehicle belonging to one of the suspects.

WPD Chief Matt Barnett said the case remains under investigation and no information will be released at this time concerning the relationship between the victim and the suspects or any motive.
