Barbara Smith

Barbara Bouchillion Smith, age 79, passed away peacefully at home in Florida surrounded by loved ones on July 28, 2020. Barbara fought a very brave battle always displaying courage and determination against Parkinson’s disease. She was born on October 6, 1940 in Louisville, Mississippi to Grady and Mallie Robertson Bouchillion who both preceded her in death.

Barbara married the love of her life Toxey Hall Smith, Jr., on August 16,1959 in Poplarville, Mississippi. They were happily married for 61 years. During the time while Toxey was an agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigators, they called many places home including Nebraska, New York, California and finally settling in Wiggins and eventually Biloxi, Mississippi.

Once her children were grown, Barbara enjoyed a fulfilling career in retail beginning with Gayfers in 1984 as a fragrance model working her way up to the Executive Fashion Director. During this time, she was involved with the Gayfer Girls Teen Board as well as White Gloves and Party Manners classes. She enjoyed working with the many young women involved along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Upon the closing of Gayfers in 1997, she went to work at McRae’s for Estee Lauder selling cosmetics. She continued her career with Belk Department Stores and retired as a Counter Manager for Estee Lauder at the Edgewater Mall store in 2017. During this time, she served many customers not only selling makeup but building personal relationships. She absolutely loved her job and helping her customers look their best. In Barbara’s words, “I love people, so I’m always happiest when I have people around my counters. It is a very fulfilling job.” Above all, Barbara loved her family and friends. She touched the hearts of all she encountered and made a lasting impression. She will always be our sweet angel.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband Toxey Hall Smith, Jr.; her two daughters, Tamarah Parker (Michael) of Wiggins, Mississippi and Michelle Burton (Derren) of Parrish, Florida.
