Mayor Joel Travis Miles

Mayor Joel Travis Miles was born on April 26, 1953.  He went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport following a battle with Covid-19.

Joel is preceded in death by his parents Joe (Doc) and Toxie Miles; and brother, Jimmy Miles all of Wiggins, MS.

He is survived by a big beautiful blended family. His wife, Mary Elizabeth Maples Miles; sons, Jody (Janessa) Miles and Justin (Haley) Miles of Wiggins, MS; bonus children, Tommy (Haleigh) Havard of Houston, MS, Jarred (Haven) Havard of Wiggins, MS, and Madison Havard of Wiggins, MS; grandchildren, Kyndall, Charleigh, Jackson, Aidan, Ansleigh, Henley, Gray, and Ellie; brother, Russell (Sharon) Miles of Greenville, S.C.; nephews, Rusty Miles of Daphne, AL, Jeff (Pam) Miles of Dothan, AL; niece, Olivia (Mike) Zajac of Melbourne, FL; and a host of great-nephews and nieces, and a dear friend Ida Mitchell.

Joel’s happiness came from his family and his service to the City of Wiggins. His wife, children, grandbabies, and mayoral duties brought joy and fullness throughout his earthly life. Many people move away from home as they grow older, but Joel had the biggest appreciation for our small, close community.  He loved the people of Stone County and the City of Wiggins as his family.

Public viewing will be at Moore Funeral Home in Wiggins, MS on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
