Sherrilyn O'Neal

Sherrilyn “Sherri” Royce O’Neal was born to Dick O’Neal and Rose Mary Longmire O’Neal (Durham) on October 20, 1967, at Stone County Hospital in Wiggins, Mississippi. She attended West Brook High School in Beaumont, Texas where she was active in the band and played the saxophone and piano. Sherri was also a talented vocal soloist. She attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at Perkinston and then received her BS in Marketing from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Sherri returned to South Mississippi after college, residing in Perkinston, Mississippi, for more than 30 years until her passing at age 54 on July 6, 2022. 

Sherri had many diverse hobbies. A country girl at heart, she enjoyed studying her Bible, singing, playing the piano, visiting family and friends, cooking, sewing, working in her mini-garden, roaming among the cows and calves, riding the four-wheeler on the farm, shopping, dressing up and spoiling her dogs Pup Pup and Gizzy.

She is survived by her father, Roscoe Lamar (Dick) O’Neal, Jr. of Perkinston, Mississippi; Aunt Jerry Longmire; Uncle Bob (Robert Wallace) and Aunt Pat Longmire; Uncle Dr. Jack (Atkinson Winans) and Aunt Sarah Longmire; Uncle Roy and Aunt Susan Jones; and numerous cousins. 

She is preceded in death by her mother Rose Mary Longmire O’Neal Durham; maternal grandparents A.B. and ErmyntrudeLongmire; paternal grandparents Roscoe Lamar O’Neal, Sr., and Leasey Broadus O’Neal; Uncle Tip (Levi) and Aunt Lela Longmire Marsh; Uncle Bill (Glen William) Longmire; Uncle Harry (Harold Martin) and Aunt Patsy Longmire; and Uncle Bill and Aunt Laurel Anne Kesterson.

A visitation will be held at Paramount Baptist Church, located at 63 Paramount Church Road in Perkinston, Mississippi, from 10 am to 12 noon on Saturday, July 23, 2022. A celebration of Sherri’s life will begin at 12 noon at the church. Sherri will be laid to rest at the church cemetery along with her predeceased family members. Rev. Billy Ferrell and Rev. Dennis Knight will officiate the service. 

Serving as pallbearers are Danny Ladner, Bo Bo Pelto, Anthony Bond, George Slade, John Walker, and Tim Hurst.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stone County SPCA (Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty of Animals). Their address is 1989 Highway 26, Wiggins, Mississippi, 39577. 

Moore Funeral Service in Wiggins is in charge of the arrangements.
